Olmos Park has a rich history dating back to the mid 1920's when H.C. Thorman, a renowned oilman and real estate tycoon, purchased property from an Austrian count and developed the posh suburb that became known as Olmos Park. Completely surrounded by the City of San Antonio, our residents enjoy both the advantages of a small town and those of a big city.
The City prides itself on being a friendly city with over 800 single-family homes, most valued between $450,000 and $950,000. Several are valued at more than $1,500,000. Many architectural styles compliment our neighborhood and large, beautiful trees form a canopy of shade over many of our streets. We have a small apartment district of about 250 units.
Our business district includes several restaurants serving everything from quick sandwiches to gourmet meals and ethnic specialties. We have a wide range of other businesses including convenience stores, auto garages, hair salons, and service companies. There is an H.E.B. grocery store located just a few blocks from our city limits.
Olmos Park is located in the Alamo Heights Independent School District. School bus service is provided by A.H.I.S.D. with a stop at nearly every corner. There is VIA bus service on McCullough.
Olmos Park offers four parks, the largest of which is Alameda Circle, consisting of one-half acre.
There are three major social events held at Alameda Circle each year: the King Antonio party on the first Sunday of Fiesta, the annual 4th of July Parade, and the Night Out event in October.
We have a Police Department, Fire Department, and Environmental Services Department, staffed with dedicated employees, ready to serve. Our administrative staff includes the City Manager, City Secretary, and Court Administrator.
