Change of Insurance Rating for City of Olmos Park

To help establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties, insurance companies need reliable, up-to-date information about a municipalities or emergency service district fire protection services. The Insurance Services Office (ISO) provides that’s information through the Public Protection Classification (PPC) program. ISO collects information on a community’s public fire protection and analyzes data using a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). ISO then assigns a PPC from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents the best public protection and Class 10 indicates less than the minimum recognized protection.

The City of Olmos Park underwent a review by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) in September 2022. ISO submitted a recommendation that the Public Protection Classification (PPC) be improved to Class One (1). The Texas Department of Insurance, State Fire Marshal’s Office reviewed the recommendation and awarded the City of Olmos Park the Class 1 PPC designation effective June 1, 2023.

Most U.S. insurers – including the largest ones – use PPC information as part of their decision-making when deciding what business to write, coverages to offer, or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.

Communities whose PPC improves may get lower insurance rates.

We will provide our citizens the highest quality in Fire and Emergency Medical Services and will achieve this through progressive training and the professional development of our membership.

The City of Olmos Park has one fire station that houses two Fire Engines and one Quick Response Vehicle (Rescue 1). The fire department has thirteen paid professional fire fighters and a reserve fire fighter element. The department works closely with aiding departments to provide fire and ems services to our community along with neighboring communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. EMS transport is provided by contract through the City of Alamo Heights.
